Things you should avoid during Ramadan
In the holy month of Ramadan, we are eager to revive our hearts, form a bond with Allah and simply immerse ourselves in the celestial experience. It is necessary to make the most out of this blessed month by avoiding all kinds of diversions and barriers.
Now-a-days the hectic schedules and various modern practices act as obstacles to endure the holy month. We should make a conscious effort to stay away from such hindrances in order to avert disappointment at the end of the month.
Here are a few obstacles that can be avoided.
- Having Evil Intentions Or Grudges
Some of us fast but do not give up lying, cursing, fighting, backbiting, cheating, stealing and all kinds of impermissible things without realizing that the purpose of fasting is to not stay away from food and drink; rather the aim behind it is to show your love for Allah.
Remember that a person will be rewarded if their intention behind fasting is selfless and pure.
- Avoid Overeating At Suhoor/Iftar
Too much food distracts a person from many deeds of obedience and worship, makes him lazy and also makes the heart heedless. It is believed that due to over eating in Ramadan, quality of prayers get depleted. Eating too much at Suhoor can lead to missing out to Fajr prayers. Similarly, heavy meals at Iftar may result in late Maghreb prayers.
- Say No To Iftar Parties
Lavish Iftar parties tend to be exhaustive for the ladies in the house. This also leads to them missing out on their worship time. Moreover, these parties involve having redundant talks that keeps a person away from Ibadah. Avoid such engagements and immerse yourselves in the divinity of this month.
- Do not waste time
Conscious efforts should be made to avoid watching TV for long hours, refrain from being a part of any gossip groups as Islam doesn’t allow gossiping and backbiting. Also avoid spending a lot of time on social media and other time consuming activities.
- Avoid unhealthy meals
Avoid consuming a large amount of fried food. Eat light food during Suhoor and Iftar. Unhealthy food habits during this time not only affect the health but also affect the quality of Ibadah.
Ramadan is a holy month revolving around ‘Ibadah’ and creates a long-lasting bond with Allah. Make selfless contribution during this month and the rewards will be on its way. May Allah help us in spending our time wisely this Ramadan and help us in avoiding these mistakes. Ameen!
